🍲 Kujira-jaga (Whale Potato Stew)
· 📍 Nagasaki
In Nagasaki, whaling has been conducted since the Jomon period, and during the Edo period, Sonogi, located on the east side of Omura Bay, prospered as a center for traditional whaling. Alongside this, a culture of consuming whale meat took root in Nagasaki, giving rise to various whale dishes over the years. "Kujirajaga" is one of them. It emerged in local households as a version of nikujaga (meat and potato stew) with whale meat, developed in the modern era after the birth of the traditional nikujaga.
